PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an iron oxide particle having a high blackness degree, excellent in dispersibility and comprising a carbonaceous component more firmly and uniformly treated on the particle surface, to provide a method for producing the iron oxide particle and further to obtain an iron oxide powder comprising the iron oxide particle, a toner comprising the iron oxide powder, a carrier and a black pigment powder comprising the iron oxide powder. SOLUTION: This iron oxide particle is characterized in that a carbonaceous component having 0.05-1 μm average particle diameter in an amount of 0.1-30 wt.% based on the total amount of the iron oxide particle expressed in terms of carbon atom sticks to the particle surface and the elimination rate of the carbonaceous component is =15% when water is used as a dispersion medium.
