PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to profitably produce a colored optical plastic lens by efficiently dyeing an optical plastic lens in such a way that the lens has an arbitrary color tone and density and the colored optical plastic lens obtained by this method. SOLUTION: An aqueous dyeing solution containing a water-soluble polymer and a disperse dye is applied to the surface of an optical plastic lens to form a coating and the lens is dyed by heat treatment. The dyeing density of the lens is adjusted in accordance with the amount of the dye held in the coating or the amount of the dye and heat treatment conditions and the objective colored optical plastic lens is produced.
