PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superplastic metallic damper for absorbing vibrational energy by making use of shear deformation of a superplastic metal excellent in ductility. ;SOLUTION: Both ends of a superplastic metallic body obtained by working a superplastic metal excellent in ductility such as a zinc-aluminum alloy (Zn-Al alloy) into such a shape (the height/diameter ratio is not more than 1) excellent in shear deformation are bonded by metallic ring-shaped bodies having strength and rigidity higher than that of the superplastic metal. External force by the earthquake is applied to the superplastic metallic body through the ring-shaped bodies on both ends, and a superplastic metallic damper is used so that shear deformation may be generated on the superplastic metallic body.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
