PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a π/2 azimuth rotator with a low cost exhibiting high optical performance in a wide band and having excellent heat resistance and a polarized light transformation element utilizing it. SOLUTION: The π/2 azimuth rotator 15 is provided with an optical rotatory layer containing liquid crystalline molecules and having birefringence Δn. The liquid crystalline molecules are fixed by a polymerization reaction in the optical rotatory layer forming twisted structure with p nm twist pitch and nearly 90 deg. twist angle. With respect to =450 nm and =650 nm wavelength λ, (p×Δn)/λ) is =0.7. The polarized light transformation element 13 is provided with the π/2 azimuth rotator 15.
