PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a position of video signal packets when the transmitted video signal packets are discontinuous by inserting a switching packet to the position where the video signal packets sent from a source device to a destination device via a serial data bus are discontinuous. ;SOLUTION: A video recorder 10 being a source device transmits contents of digital video signals to a designation device. An MPEG-TS signal reproduction unit 11 first assembles the contents of the video signals into MPEG-TS signal packets. An MPEG-TS packet insertion unit 13 inserts a switching packet to a position of the packets where contents of the MPEG-TS signal packets are changed or discontinuous. Transmitting the MPEG-TS signal packets with the switching packet inserted thereto to the destination device in this way allows the destination device to be able to simply detect a change in the contents of the MPEG-TS signal packets.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
