PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate wasteful power consumption for saving power when a machine tool becomes a machining interrupted and dormant state due to an error in a machining program, a machine anomaly, a wrong operation, or the like during automatic operation. ;SOLUTION: This operation control method for the automatically controlled machine tool executes the machining program for performing the automatic operation. Under a state of the machine tool set in an automatic operation mode, a command control state and an operating state of the machine tool are monitored, and by these monitoring, it is determined that the machine tool is in the machining interrupted and dormant state on the basis of predetermined conditions. When it is in the machining interrupted and dormant state, a power- saving process is performed stopping a main spindle rotation and operations of utilities such as a coolant supplying system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
