PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rapidly and simply carrying out quantitative measurements related to the proliferation and activities of various microorganisms without breaking the microorganisms, and to provide a susceptibility-testing method which employs the measurement method and can rapidly and simply evaluate the sterilizing powers of various antibacterial agents against various bacteria. ;SOLUTION: This method for measuring the proliferation and/or activity of a microorganism comprises incubating the microorganism together with an oxidized quinone in a culture solution and then determining the product by a chemiluminescence method. The susceptibility-testing method for evaluating the susceptibility of a microorganism to an antibacterial agent from the measured proliferation power and/or activity of the microorganism comprises incubating the microorganism together with an oxidized quinone in a culture solution in the presence of the antibacterial agent and then determining the product by a chemiluminescence method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
