PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new diarylethene compound having excellent fading property in addition to durability to repeated use and useful for an organic photochromic film, etc.;SOLUTION: The objective diarylethene compound is expressed by formula I [(n) is 2-5; A is group of formula II (R1 is an alkyl; R2 is an alkyl or cyano)], e.g. 1,2-bis(1,3,5-trimethyl-2-phenyl)hexafluorocyclopentene. The compound can be produced by reacting a perfluorocyclopentene of formula III with a lithiated phenyl derivative of formula IV for about 10-40 min in a reaction solvent consisting of an other solvent such as tetrahydrofuran dehydrated with metallic sodium, etc., while keeping the temperature of the system to -100 to -60°C and terminating the reaction by adding methanol after the complete consumption of the compound of formula IV.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
