PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject novel fluorine-containing cyclic carbonic ester that has excellent effect to lower the melting point and the viscosity and to increase the electrochemical stability or the like and is useful as an electrolyte solvent or additives for lithium ion secondary cells, as a functional material and an intermediate for medicines.;SOLUTION: This compound is 4,5-difluoro-1,3-dioxolane-2-one represented by formula I or formula II. In a preferred embodiment, 4,4-difluoro-1,3- dioxolance-2-one of formula III can be cited. These compounds of formulas I through III are prepared by introducing a fluorine gas or a mixture thereof with an inert gas into a fused solution of 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolane-2-one or a solution thereof in hydrogen fluoride to effect the reaction between them each other at -20-100°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
