PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect and exclude a foreign object and at the same time drastically reduce the failure of shredding machine by applying X rays with specific tube voltage and current values to a plastic package for deciding the shape of the silhouette of the obtained transmission image. SOLUTION: X-rays are irradiated from an X-ray irradiation device 3 to a waste plastic package 1 placed on a conveyor belt 8, thus detecting X rays by an X-ray detecting device 4. The output of the X-ray detecting device 4 is converted to an image signal by a signal converter 6 and is displayed on a monitor 7 as an X-ray transmission image.In this case, since a rigid foreign object 2 contains an atom with a large atomic number such as iron and nickel as compared with plastic, thus preventing X-rays from transmitting easily for displaying as a part with a dense image concentration on the monitor 7. The image is decided by a human to detect a rigid foreign object. Also, image processing is made by the signal converter 6 for making clear the image of the monitor and at the same time coloring is made at every density of a transmission image to facilitate a detection.
