PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which can display an in-focus image by speedily performing automatic focusing operation even in monitor mode wherein the shutter release button is not pressed and a picked-up image is displayed in real time in a passive type automatic focusing system which utilizes a high-frequency component. ;SOLUTION: The automatic focusing operation is switched between the monitor mode and a photographic mode. In the monitor mode, a focusing position is found (S1, S2, and S9) by roughly moving a focusing lens by rough search automatic focusing and when the shutter release button is half-pressed, a focusing position is found (S4 to S8) by finely moving the focusing lens by detailed search automatic focusing for the photographic mode.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
