PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for developing and processing the silver halide black-and-white photographic sensitive material in which fluctuation of photographic performances is small even in the case of small replenishing amount by using a stable developing solution having a pH of 11.0 and stains stuck to the developing solution or a sensitive material are hardly caused and stabilized performance are obtained all the time. ;SOLUTION: This silver halide black-and-white photographic sensitive material is developed and processed with the developing solution containing a compound represented by the formula and having a pH of 9.0-11.0, where replenishing amount of the developing solution is 330 ml/m2. The photographic constituent layers of the photosensitive material contain calcium of 0-15 mg per 1 m2 of the photosensitive material. In the formula, each of R1-R4 is an optional substituent combining through an H, halogen, C, or N atom or the like but R1 and R3 are not a hydroxyl group, and each of R1-R4 is may be same or different, and at least one of them is a -SM group; and M is an H or alkali metal atom or an ammonium group.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
