The present invention provides the use of the M.vaccae preparation for the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of a chronic viral infection, excluding an HIV infection. Chronic viral infections include HPV infection, such as HPV infection associated with cervical dysplasia, herpes virus infection, subacute sclerosing pan encephalitis, and hepatitis virus infection.
