Nucleic acid molecules comprising a non-structural hepatitis C protein including specifically described DNA sequences are described. Pharmaceutical compositions containing nucleic acid molecules comprising a non-structural hepatitis C protein including a nucleotide sequence encoding NS3, NS4 AND NS5, or a combination thereof, operably linked to functional regulatory elements in human cells are described. A method of immunizing individuals susceptible to or infected with hepatitis C viruses comprising administering these pharmaceutical compositions are described.
