The present invention relates to the use of phenyl substituted 1,4-dihydropyridines of the general formula I, in which the substituents have specific meanings, further novel phenyl substituted 1,4-dihydropyridines per se and process of their preparation by reacting halophenyl-aldehydes with {beta}-keto esters, optionally under isolation of ylidene compounds and with enamines as well as medicaments in which these substances are comprised, particularly cerebrally active preparations.
