The present invention relates to a circulating fluidized bed reactor comprising a tank (40) for storing solid particles with a storage capacity defined by the range of changes in the inventory of circulating solid particles in the reactor (1) blanket (6), required for bed inventory/temperature control due to fuel/sorbent variations and/or load changes, for storing solid particles collected by a secondary solid particle separator (22), a recirculating system (52) for controlled recirculation of solid particles collected by the secondary solid particle separator (22) and stored in the solid particle storage tank (40), back into the bottom portion of the reactor (1) blanket (6), further a bed temperature control system (80) for controlling the recirculation rate of these solid particles from the solid particle storage tank (40) back to the reactor (1) blanket (6) for change in the supply of circulating solids within the circulating fluidized bed reactor (1) in order to control temperature of the circulating fluidized bed within the reactor (1) blanket (6), and further a solids storage level control system (81) that interacts with the bed temperature control system (80) and controls the solids inventory in the solids storage tank (40) via a purge system. Disclosed is also a method for controlling temperature of solids within a circulating fluidized bed reactor (1) wherein the method comprises the step of collecting solid particles entrained by a gas flowing through a reactor (1) blanket (6) and out of the reactor (1) blanket (6) within a primary separator (20) of solid particles and returning the solid particles back into the bottom portion of the reactor (1) blanket (6), further the step of employing a secondary separator (22) of solid particles for further collecting the solid particles entrained by a gas and so far remaining in this gas flowing out of the reactor (1) blanket (6) after passage through the solids primary separator (20), a step of storing other solid particles collected by the secondary separator (22) of solid particles within a tank (40) for storing the solid particles, and a step of controlling circulating rate of the solid particles flowing from the solid particle storage tank (40) into the bottom portion of the reactor (1) blanket (6) in order to change inventory of the circulating solid particles in the circulating fluidized bed reactor (1) through change in the inventory of solid particles in the solid particle storage tank (40) to control temperature of circulating fluidized bed in the reactor (1) blanket (6).
