Process and apparatus for removing flesh and fat residues from the flesh side of pelts of fur-bearing animals

The apparatus for the removal of flesh and fat residues from the flesh side of cylindrical pelts from fur-bearing animals consists of at least two cooperating scraping rollers 18,20, which are fitted with scraping edges 27. The furthering element, which may be e.g. a conveyer 10 inserts between the scraping rollers the pelt whose flesh side has been turned outward. The scraping rollers 18,20 are rotated in opposite directions, so that, at the points of contact with the pelt, they rotate in the sense opposite to the sense in which the pelt is moving. The scraping edges 27 of the scraping rollers 18,20 are so designed that during the scraping operation the cylindrical pelt is turned about its longitudinal axis in a predetermined direction. The pelt is applied to a mandrel 15 shaped like a plate, which is connected to the conveyer 10 by means of a locking device 14, which is automatically locked and released. The fully treated pelt is passed through a device 22,24,25, with the aid of which sawdust is introduced at both sides of the flattened cylindrical pelt. IMAGE
