A method for measuring the nitrogen and/or phosphorous content in manure comprises using a sample of manure to form a destruction solution and then adding chemicals to generate a color reaction for determining nitrogen and/or phosphorous concentration. The solution is formed by placing the sample inside a destruction vessel and adding a solution containing acid and an oxidizing agent. An Independent claim is also included for a field analysis kit for carrying out this method.
