A basket (3) or tray is placed inside a floating ring (2) encapsulated in fibre material (1). A floating device for plants or birds is made to float by a ring comprising a hollow or solid tube of flexible or rigid material which is encapsulated with natural or synthetic fibres of e.g. coconut or polypropylene material, and whose ends are joined together to form a ring. A basket or tray can be placed inside the ring, so that plants (8) can be grown or birds can nest in the device.
