Polyethylene plastomer film, useful for sealing infusion bottle caps, has specific water vapour permeability, deformation resistance and peel strength properties

The film has specific properties relating to its separation resistance, water vapour permeability and curling and deformation resistance during sterilisation, as well as its peel strength. A synthetic film comprising a polyethylene plastomer, useful as a sterilisible sealing film for high density polyethylene (HDPE) caps for infusion bottles, and treated with a suitable dose of electron beam radiation, has the following properties: (a) sterilisation for 60 minutes at 110 deg.C and/or 30 minutes at 121 deg.C does not lead to separation of the film from a HDPE cap ; (b) sufficient water vapour permeability during the sterilisation process to ensure all microorganisms are killed ; (c) no curling or deformation takes place during sterilisation ; and (d) peel strength at room temperature is 5-15 N/cm.
