Rainwater is directed down a drainpipe (10) and into a relatively small diameter pipe (14) extending horizontally from one side of the building to the other, from where the water is discharged into a non-sewer location. A drainage system for rainwater falling on a roof (5) comprises a drainpipe secured to a wall (3, 4) of the building and connected at its bottom end to a drainage pipe extending in an essentially horizontal direction from one side of the building to the other side, where it ends at an exit part (15). The drainage pipe has a smaller diameter than the drainpipe.
