Process for the immobilization of enzymes into silica aerogel carriers with large specific surface areas over 430 m2/g. The new immobilization process comprises: sol-gel synthesis, ageing, supercritical drying with gas. The enzymes immobilized with the new technique exhibit high relative activities (up to 25), when used as catalysts in esterifications reactions in supercritical fluids, in comparison with commercial free enzymes.
