The proposed method for determining the functional activity of algae Chlorella vulgaris consists in placing the algae sample into the temperature-controlled chamber of a cytofluorimeter, exposing the sample to exciting optical radiation with specified intensity and spectrum, measuring the intensity of the fluorescence of chlorophyll in the algae bythe output signal of the photoelectronic transducer, and determining the indicator that characterize the functional activity of the algae by the measurement data. The method is distinctive by additionally measuring the intensity of the exciting radiation acting on the sample and measuring the fluorescence intensity at two values of the exciting radiation intensities that is selected in the ranges of 0.5 ... 2.0 W/m2 and 50 ... 100 W/m2. As the indicator that characterizes the functional activity of the algae, the intensity of the primary photosynthesis reaction is used. The proposed method can be used to determine toxicity of aqueous medium by algae Chlorella vulgaris in laboratory or natural conditions.
