The invention concerns the use of a solid composition of mixed oxides of formula (I): Mo12BiaFebCocNidSieKfCrgOx 0.5 /= a /=5; 0.1 /= b /= 10; 0.5 /= c /= 10; 0 /= d/=10; 0 /= e /= 15; 0 /= f /= 1; 0.1 /= g /= 2; x is the amount of oxygen bound with the other elements and depends on their oxidation conditions, in the production of acrolein by oxidation of propylene, said solid composition reacting with propylene by redox reaction (1): oxidisedSOLID + Propylene } reducedSOLID + Acrolein. The method for making acrolein consists in reacting gaseous propylene with a solid composition of formula (I), operating at a temperature ranging between 200 and 600 DEG C, under pressure ranging from 1.01 x 104 to 1.01 x 106 Pa (0.1 to 10 atmospheres), and with a retention time from 0.01 second to 90 seconds, in the absence of molecular oxygen, thereby producing said redox reaction (1).
