Electrochromic display comprising a first substrate bearing a conductive pattern and a working electrode located on said conductive pattern, a second substrate bearing a counterelectrode and a sealing material which connects the first substrate to the second substrate and comprises an inner edge which defines an inner space which contains an electrolyte which separates the working electrode from the counterelectrode, the working electrode consisting of an electrically conductive or semiconductive porously nanostructured film on which electrochromically active molecules have been adsorbed, which are adapted so as to assume an oxidized an a non-oxidized state depending on the voltage applied between the working electrode and the counterelectrode, the appearance of the electrochromically active molecules in the oxidized state differing from the appearance in the non-oxidized state, and the counterelectrode comprising a contrast layer, the appearance of which corresponds closely to the appearance of said electrochromically active molecules in their one state and forms a contrast with the appearance of said electrochromically active molecules in their other state, and method of manufacturing such a display.
