The production of synthetic tars and other carbonaceous materials comprises polymerization of anthracene oil with anhydrous AlCl3. The catalyst concentration exceeds 3%, with 1-10 hours treatment at 100-350 degrees C. Preferred Features: The product yield exceeds 90%, and carbonization at 900 degrees C gives high-quality coke in ca. 30% yield.
