Methylesters or ethyl mono- and polycarboxylic ARE transesterified alcohols and polyols by reaction in the presence of an amount of a catalyst catalytically effective organotin having the structure: wherein for each SN, A is independently selected from alkyl groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is independently selected from alkyl, chlorine, bromine, hydroxyl, alkoxy groups with 1 to 18 carbon atoms and acyloxy groups with 1-18 carbon atoms, provided that when X is aLKYL , THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CARBON aTOMS FOR EACH SN AYX not more than 4, and when X NOT RENT, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CARBON aTOMS FOR EACH SN A is not more than 4; AND CHLORINE, bromo, hydroxy, alkoxy groups with 1-18 carbon atoms and acyloxy groups is selected with 1-18 carbon atoms, R is selected from hydrogen, alkyl groups having 1 to 18 carbon atoms and acyl groups having 1-18 carbon atoms, OY, XY -OR together form a group ACID ESTANOICO or an anhydride thereof, n is an integer of 1 to 10; SO THAT IS FORMED A polyol carboxylic acid or alcohol, WHICH IS then washed with aqueous alkali having an upper pH to about 13.2 to remove essentially all organotin catalyst, allowing RECOVERY OF ACID ESTER carboxylic alcohol or polyol essentially free organotin catalyst.
