An improved process for effecting the efficientdesulfurization of gases containing sulfur oxides,comprising the steps of: transmitting flue gas containingsulfur oxides gases through ductwork means, subjecting theflue gas to one of increasing the temperature of the fluegas through gaseous interaction and subjecting the flue gasto thermal radiator means, in order to effect a rapid andpositive time rate of temperature change so that sulfurdioxide in said flue gas is converted to sulfur trioxide,passing the sulfur trioxide rich flue gas to a reactor andproviding a calcium containing reactant to the reactor, andcontinuously emitting a desulfurized exit gas from thereactor and transmitting the desulfurized exit gas to anexit, The process is a completely dry process whichprovides advantages over known processes including improvedsulfur oxide removal in a exothermic reaction.
