THERAPEUTIC COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS RELATING TO PROLACTIN RELEASING PEPTIDE (PRRP)

The invention provides a substantially pureProlactin Releasing Peptide (PrRP) functional analogwhich suppresses absence seizures in a mammal, andrelated pharmaceutical compositions. The invention alsoprovides a method of controlling absence seizures in amammal, by administering to a mammal susceptible toabsence seizures an effective amount of PrRP or a PrRPfunctional analog. Also provided are methods ofidentifying a compound that modulates AMPA receptorsignaling in a mammal, by providing a compound that is aPrRP or PrRP functional analog, and determining theability of the compound to modulate AMPA receptorsignaling. The invention also provides methods ofidentifying a compound for controlling absence seizuresin a mammal, by providing a compound that is a PrRP orPrRP functional analog, and determining the ability ofthe compound to control absence seizures in a mammal.Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions forcontrolling absence seizures in a mamma. Thecompositions and related methods contain a compoundidentified by the methods of the invention as a compoundthat modulates AMPA receptor signaling or as a compoundthat controls absence seizures.
