A METHOD AND RELATIONAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR STORING, COMPARING, AND DISPLAYING RESULTS PRODUCED BY ANALYSES OF GENE ARRAY DATA

A method and system for analyzing data over a network are described. A Webserver communicates with a storage system that stores genomic information in adatabase. Client systems connect to the Web server over a network, such as theInternet, using standard Web protocols (e.g., HTTP). The Web server sends Webpages to the client through which pages the user of the client can loadgenomic information into the database. The client user obtains the genomicinformation for uploading from genomic samples of organisms hybridized tochips or arrays. With the database populated with genomic information, theclient user interactively selects and performs an analysis on selected samplesover the network. The result produced by the analysis is a list of genes or alist of gene lists that becomes part of the database. These gene lists orlists of gene lists can then be compared with other previously stored lists orwith user-generated and/or user-selected gene lists. Accordingly, subsequentusers of the database can review the research performed by others, andincorporate that research into their own research.
