A method and apparatus for extending an external antenna (120) and switching between an internal antenna (202) and an external antenna (120) in a wireless station. When no external antenna is extended, a transceiver of the wireless station is connected to an internal antenna (202) through two sets of contacts, one negative set and one positive set. One contact of the positive set contacts the surface of the internal antenna (202). A connection is completed to the second contact of the positive set via an antenna connection housing (100). The antenna connection housing (100) is located internally in the wireless station. The second contact of the positive set contacts a printed circuit board of the wireless station at a contact point designed for positive radio frequency (RF) input and output RF IN/OUT. In like manner, the negative set contacts the surface of the internal antenna (202), completes a connection through the antenna connection housing (100), and contacts the printed circuit board at a designated contact point. The external antenna (120)of the wireless station is designed to switch the radio frequency input to the printed circuit board from the internal antenna (202)to the external antenna (120) when the external antenna (120)is fully extended.
