The invention concerns a system for registering articles in self-service shopping comprising a bar code scanner (8), a system for sorting the products (10, 11, 12, 27 and 28), a multiple conveyor belt system (29, 30, 33) for transporting the articles, a counting system (13, 26) consisting of an electronic ring (13) through which the articles must pass. The number of counted articles passing through said sensor should coincide with the number of products registered, otherwise the article is returned by the conveyor belt in the opposite direction or shifted to a lower belt. A monitor displays the sum due. Payment can be made in coins (5), notes (7), cheques (34) or with bar code scanned cards with a manual keyboard (1) inserting bar code data in case of problems with the previous systems; there is also provided a packaging system (20, 21, 22) at the end of the belt, consisting of a roll of plastic material passing through a cavity for receiving the registered articles and form bags of articles. An electric carriage is also used which is verified for any non-registered article when passing through the ring and the client is warned by an alarm signal. The ring may also be used to verify whether the height or the width of the object correspond to the known data for the object which has been bar code scanned. The light articles are sorted by a ventilating roll (28).
