The present invention discloses a novel polypeptide, a human protein 17 STAG3 (stromal antigene), the polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide and the method for producing the polypeptide by DNA recombinant technology. The invention also discloses the uses of the polypeptide in methods for treating various diseases, such as Williams-Beuren syndrome, chromosomic diseases, syndromes associated with chromosomic fragmentation, embryonic development disorders, sterility, immunilogical disease, hemopathy, and HIV infection. The invention also discloses the agonists against the polypeptide and the therapeutic action thereof. The invention also discloses the uses of the polynucleotide encoding the human protein 17 STAG3 (stromal antigene).
