This invention generally relates to novel compositions and methods for the detection of compounds that are agonistic or antagonistic apoptosis signaling pathways and, in particular, Apaf-1 activity. Additionally, this invention relates to the detection of other molecules that may play a role in the apoptotic process as well as homologs to the novel reagents disclosed here.
