USE OF N-ACYL HOMOSERINE LACTONES FOR THE TREATMENT OF CARDIAC TACHYARRHYTHMIAS, ISCHAEMIC HEART DISEASE OR CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE

Compounds of formula (1) wherein n is 2 or 3, Y is O, S or NH; X is O, S or NH; and R is a 3-15C substituted aliphatic acyl group are useful as medicaments in the treatment or prevention of cardiac tachyarrythmias, ischaemic heart disease and congestive heart failure in human and non-human animals. Preferred compounds of the formula (1) include those in which R is a substituted alkylcarbonyl group in which the substituted alkyl has from 9 to 14 carbon atoms and is substituted at position beta to the carbonyl by an oxo or a hydroxy group.
