STRAIN OF THE BACTERIA BACILLIUS LATEROSPORUS PS-2 (BREVIBACILLUS LATEROSPORUS PS-2), DECOMPOSING POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS

A strain of the bacteria Bacillus laterosporus PS-2 (Brevibasillus laterosporus PS-2)VKPM B-7820 is intended for decomposing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). The strain can be used for detoxifying parts of the environment and industrial waste containing PCB. A biomass is obtained by culturing the strain on different nutritious mediums containing the normal sources of carbon, nitrogen and mineral salts. The resulting biomass which has a concentration of 10?9 kl/cm3 to 107 kl/cm3¿, is used for decomposing PCB. The strain makes it possible to reduce the PCB content in parts of the environment by 70-80 %.
