NULL OR EXTREMELY HYPOMORPHIC ALLELE OF THE ABI4 GENE OF ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA AND THE UTILIZATION THEREOF FOR OBTAINING SALINITY-TOLERANT PLANTS

The invention concerns a null or extremely hypomorphic allele of the ABI4 gene causing abscisic acid insensitivity as well as salinity tolerance during germination in Arabidopsis thaliana. Mutant alleles with total or extreme insufficiency of ABI4 gene function could be used both in Arabidopsis thaliana and other plant species with the purpose of obtaining plants having germination and growth capability in salinized soils.
