The connector cooperates with a surface contact (9) of the mobile telephone handset (2) incorporated in its outside wall, when the handset is fitted to the connector housing (1), via contact springs projecting through an opening (15) in the housing end wall (33). The contact spring is protected by an insulating cap (14), spring-biased to project through the opening, with a central window, through which a contact nipple (20) of the contact spring projects for contacting the surface contact.
