MANAGING ORDERS BASED ON BUDGET RESTRICTIONS IN A PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

A method of managing orders based on budget restrictions in a procurement management system is disclosed. Data is received and stored that defines a budget period, specifies a budget identifier that is to be associated with the budget period, and specifies a budget restriction that is associated with the budget identifier. An order request associated with the budget identifier is received. A revised aggregate budget basis is determined based on the budget basis of the order request and an aggregate budget basis for any orders accepted during the budget period for the budget identifier. If the revised aggregate budget basis conforms to the budget restriction, the order request is accepted, and if not, the order request is denied. According to other features, a budget restriction type is received and stored, such as a currency amount, an item quantity, and an item type quantity, and an approval feature is used.
