The use of nanoparticles of titanium dioxide as bactericide agent and photo-oxidant, having film-forming properties, is new. The patent refers to utilization of dispersion of titanium oxide, having form of elementary particles of diameter below 100 nm, preferably below 70 nm, and specific surface above 150 (preferably above 200) m2/g, in continuous phase comprising water and/or at least one alcohol with boiling point below 120 (preferably below 100) deg C, especially to utilization of the dispersion, which, if based on water, has pH different by at least one unit (preferably at least 2 units) from the isoelectric point of titanium dioxide in the dispersion, contains 0.01-15 (preferably 0.1-10) wt.% of titanium dioxide, and has pH 0-14 (preferably 2-14, especially below 4 and above 8, namely 0-3 or 9-14, when free from additives which may otherwise modify isoelectric point of titanium dioxide, and optionally contains at least one film-forming organic polymer or organosiloxane, in amount 0.005-15 (preferably 0.01-10) wt.%, or, in case of film-forming polymer able to inter-react with TiO2 particles surface by means of electrostatic bond, in amount 0.005-10 (especially 0.01-2) wt.% (in such case liquid phase is water and pH is preferably 4-9). Independent claims are also included for : (1) film-forming dispersion as described above; and (2) process of washing and/or disinfection of surfaces exposed to light, comprising application of film-forming dispersion as claimed, in amount resulting in 0.01-10 (preferably 0.05-5) g of TiO2 per m2 of the surface to be treated.
