Emulsion Polymers Which Provide Scrub Resistance and Blocking Resistance in High and Low PVC Paint Formulation

Aqueous emulsion is prepared with 2-step polymerization process. The first step, whereas the monomer is polymerized to generate a low Tg polymer, a second step in which the monomer is polymerized to generate a high Tg polymer. In any or all of the steps, at least two carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid monomer having an acrylate group to form a portion of the monomer mixture. Results are polymers particularly useful in the coating composition, and the polymer provides a good bonding effect of the blocking resistance and scrub resistance in the coating composition.
