PURPOSE: To enable uniform display without irregularity in a liquid crystal display device in which a switching element is connected to a first display electrode arranged in a matrix, by forming a spacer which can apply specified voltage on at least the switching element. CONSTITUTION: A scanning line 2 is formed on a TFT glass substrate 1, and a semiconductor film 4 is formed with a gate insulating film 3 interposed in such a manner that the semiconductor film 4 crosses the scanning line 2 above the scanning line 2. On a counter glass substrate 21, a black matrix 22 is formed in a matrix to cover the scanning line 2, signal line and TFT 10 as a switching element. Then a color layer 31 necessary for the color display is formed thereon. Further, a flattening film 32 necessary to flatten the upper face of the counter glass substrate 21 is formed thereon, and a spacer 29 which can apply specified voltage on the TFT 10 is formed thereon.
