PURPOSE: An apparatus for identifying the plates of stolen cars and criminal cars is provided to facilitate chasing of increasing stolen cars and criminal cars, reducing crimes using cars. CONSTITUTION: When a car appears in front of an apparatus for identifying the plates of stolen cars and criminal cars, the apparatus operates a zoom lens, corresponding to the distance to the car. The image of the car is input to a data converter. The input data is transmitted to a police station through a transmitter. A computer of the police station checks if the car is a stolen car or criminal car. In case of a criminal car, the location of the car is shown on the monitor together with emergency bell sound. Even if the car is not a criminal car, the data is recorded in the computer.
