PURPOSE: A vibrating string and method for manufacturing vibrating string is provided to achieve improved sound quality even when the length of vibrating string is short. CONSTITUTION: A vibrating string comprises a core wire(1); a plurality of washer weights(13) having an assembly hole formed at the center of the washer weight so as to allow the core wire to be inserted into the assembly hole, tapers formed at both side surfaces of the washer weight, and a plurality of contraction grooves formed at the assembly hole and outer periphery of the washer weight; and a plurality of shape memory alloys(16) fit to the outer periphery of the washer weight, and which are contracted when heated so as to tightly fix the wash weight to the core wire. A method comprises a first step of producing a plurality of washer weights having rings formed of shape memory alloys fit to the outer periphery of the washer weight; a second step of fixing the washer weight to the core wire, and arranging the washer weights in such a manner that the washer weights tightly contact with each other without making a gap; and a third step of tightly fixing the washer weight to the core wire by heating the rings formed of shape memory alloys and contracting the rings.
