Forward link power control apparatus and method with interference reduction during soft handoff in CDMA communication systems

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling forward link power during soft handoff in a code division multiple access cellular mobile communication system. Conventionally, for the forward link power control during soft handoff, when the mobile station is in a normal state, the signal of the forward link received from the base station is reported for each base station in the same manner, and the base station is currently busy on the basis of the information received from the mobile station. A method of increasing or decreasing the transmission power of the forward traffic channel of all the base stations connected to the base station in the same form was used. However, if the forward link power control is performed in this manner, the transmission power of the forward traffic channel of the base stations having a good forward link is also increased, thereby reducing the forward link capacity. In order to solve this problem, the mobile station measures the signal of the forward traffic channel transmitted by the base stations during soft handoff and requests a power increase and decrease for each base station, and the base station transmits the transmit power of the corresponding traffic channel according to the state of the forward link. A method and an apparatus for controlling forward link power during soft handoff in a code division multiple access cellular mobile communication system capable of increasing forward link capacity by adjusting the control rate is disclosed.
