To deposit a coating of mm thickness over a large plate (1) surface area, a solution (5) is poured over the plate while the plate is horizontal on a heated surface (2), and then hardened. During setting, an electrical current is passed through the poured solution, using plate electrodes within the solution, at constant power rating = 200 W/m2. The solution is an aqueous water glass solution, which is dried in an ambient atmosphere (6) with high CO2 content.
