Directional bending machine for the straightening bending of an elongated metal substrate and method for operation of the straightening bending machine

The machine (1) has static supports for the section (ST) to be straightened, a laser device to measure the straightness of the section and vertically-acting rams (8,9.1) which are mounted above and below the section and which can traverse along the length of the section. The section is placed on the supports, and under automatic control the straightness of the section is measured, the rams traversed to the appropriate positions and are operated in coordination to apply corrective bending deflection. The rams are withdrawn, the straightness of the section is measured, and if necessary further corrective bending is applied until the section is within the tolerance criteria.
