The solar collector has a transparent plastics hollow chamber plate (2) and a carrier plate (1) with a sandwich construction, provided with trapezoidal cross-section ribs facing the underside of the hollow chamber plate and a thermal insulation layer. The hollow chamber plate rests on the trapezoidal cross-section ribs, with an end profile (5), e.g. of a UV-resistant plastics or a lightweight metal, fitted over the edge of the hollow chamber plate having complementary slots for accommodating the ribs.
