The pyrotechnic actuator has a housing (1) enclosing a hollow space (5) containing a piston (2) which slides from an initial position to an end position, via the gas generated upon electrical detonation of an explosive charge. At least one ratchet element or spring elastic restraint (8) holds the piston in its initial position.
