The circuit has a watchdog and evaluation module (90) that responds to the signal level of the amplifier (60). In addition there is a stage (100)that changes the predetermined gain (Vo) of the amplifier dependent upon the period. A unit (20) raises or lowers the gain dependent upon the output amplitude.
